Troyan
The town of Troyan is situated on the terraced banks of the Beli Osam River, at the northern foot of the Balkan mountain. It stands 450 m above sea level and has a population of about 25 000. Troyan is located 180 km northeast of Sofia and 70 km south of Pleven.
The old Roman road Via Trayana, connecting Danube with Agean Sea, crossed the mountain and gave the name of Troyan. Crafts like carpentry, making of fur caps, smithery, homespun tailoring and, most of all, pottery were well- developed in the 19th century. The town has renowned for the production of ceramics up to the present day. Its geographical location provides conditions for good transport connections.

The Museum of national crafts and applied arts is situated in the town center and tourists can enjoy a glance of craft samples from the ancient time.

Other places of interests are the "St. Paraskeva" church, the art gallery, and the town tower, interesting are also the ancient houses of Minko Nikolov, Ivan Hadjiiski, Baleev`s house and the old buildings in Dryanska and Popishka residential quarters.

17 km away from Troyan is located a thermal mineral spring. Here are the mineral baths of Shipkovo, offering excelent conditions for balneological tourism.

The Chiflik resort, also famous for its thermal mineral springs, is not far away from the town.

20km away from Troyan is situated the "Beklemeto" resort that offers several hotels and a ski track.

5km southeast of Troyan is located the Oreshaka village, reknown for its professional craftsmen, making ceramics and Souvenirs.

9 km southeast of Troyan is located the famous Monastery of Troyan, which is the third biggest monastery in Bulgaria.

These resort villages are a starting point to many tourist routes in the mountain. Parts of the Troyan Municipality are included in the Central Balkan National Park. In the "Kozia stena" and "Steneto" reserves there are many wild animals and bird species.
