August 12 (BTA) - In the second quarter of 2019, the average gross monthly wage in Bulgaria was 1,260 leva, increasing by 4.3 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2019, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday, publishing early estimates. Compared with the second quarter of 2018, the average gross monthly wage in the second quarter of 2019 rose by 12 per cent (11 per cent in the public-financed sector and 12.4 per cent in the private sector). The largest month-on-month increase of the average gross monthly wage was registered in: electricity, heat and gaseous fuel production and distribution (up by 9.1 per cent); the hotel and restaurant business (up by 7.3 per cent); and education (also up by 7.3 per cent). The largest year-on-year increase was recorded in "other activities" (up by 17.3 per cent), real estate operations (up by 16.5 per cent), and education (up by 15.5 per cent). In April 2019, the average gross monthly wage was 1,281 leva, in May 2019 it was 1,246 leva, and in June 2019 it stood at 1,253 leva. Among people hired in an employment relationship or in a civil service relationship, the average gross monthly wage in the second quarter of 2019 was highest in: information and artistic products creation and distribution (3,053 leva); finance and insurance (2,174 leva); and electricity, heat and gaseous fuel production and distribution (2,048 leva). The level was lowest in: the hotel and restaurant business (782 leva), "other activities" (924 leva), and construction (974 leva). The NSI's early estimates also show that people hired in an employment relationship or in a civil service relationship at the end of June 2019 increased by 33,900 (1.5 per cent) compared with the end of March 2019, reaching 2.35 million. The largest increase was observed in: the hotel and restaurant business (up by 28.4 per cent); real estate operations (up by 7.9 per cent); and agriculture, forestry and fisheries (up by 3.6 per cent). The largest decrease was recorded in education (down by 2.4 per cent). At the end of June 2019 compared with the end of June 2018, people hired in an employment relationship or in a civil service relationship dropped by 3,000 (0.1 per cent).
