Bansko on a Bulgarian skiing bargain
30.11.2009The cost of a family skiing holiday can threaten to break the bank... so why not head to Bansko?
The Bulgarian resort has come top in an exclusive survey for the Mirror of family-friendly winter sport destinations.
The Family Ski Resort Report for winter 2009/10 – by Post Office Travel Services – investigated the costs of a week’s lift passes, equipment hire, ski school and living costs in eight ski resorts across Europe and North America.
Based on two adults and two children aged 6-12. Bansko led the way with a grand total of £1,012.39 ahead of Ellmau in Austria at £1,504.53 and Andorra’s Soldeu with £1,690.92.
The dearest family resort was Colorado’s Winter Park, totalling £2,478.51.
The Bulgarian resort boasted the cheapest lift pass, ski hire and lessons at £879.01 for the sample family with Ellmau next at £1,293.39. And thanks to the stability of sterling against the Bulgarian lev the prices of food and drink in Bansko made it hands-down winner again.
Coffee and Cokes were cheapest at £1.52 with Les Menuires in the French Alps most expensive at £3.33 for a caffeine hit and £2.95 for a glass of pop.
