Bulgaria Ready to Share EU Pre-accession Experience with North Macedonia - Environment Minister

02.9.2019
September 2 (BTA) - Bulgaria's Environment and Water Minister Neno Dimov conferred in Skopje on Monday with North Macedonia's newly appointed Environment and Physical Planning Minister Naser Nuredini, Dimov's Ministry said in a press release. The two discussed future joint work in implementing the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Environmental and Water Protection between their ministries, signed in Sofia on April 11, 2019. The sides outlined the forthcoming actions that they will take for the practical implementation of the Agreement. They agreed that the Joint Commission on Environment and Water Cooperation will hold a session in October, at which specific activities targeting nature conservation, water management, waste management and soil protection will be discussed at the expert level. "Neighbour-to-neighbour cooperation in environmental and water protection in the region will contribute to efficient utilization of resources, to economic growth and, above all, to ensuring a healthy environment to the citizens of the two countries," Dimov said. He stressed that this goal can be achieved by conforming to uniform environmental standards aligned with EU legislation. The guest expressed Bulgaria's readiness to share its EU pre-accession process experience with North Macedonia. Dimov specified that Bulgaria can provide support to North Macedonia in the process of harmonizing its legislation with the EU environmental acquis and noted that this is the second most voluminous body of Union law.
