Bulgarian Holding Firm Buys Plovdiv Airport Terminal

Bulgarian Holding Firm Buys Plovdiv Airport Terminal

22.12.2007

Bulgaria's Alfa Finance Holding has acquired the majority stake in the company that operates the terminal at the Plovdiv airport from Swiss firm Tado AG, Darik Radio reported on Friday.

The deal went through two months ago, but is yet to be registered in court, Darik said, quoting sources familiar with the situation.

Alfa Finance confirmed that it holds 58% in the terminal later in the day. The holding company said it plans to upgrade the terminal and will seek a partner with experience in operating such terminals to do so.

The terminal needs to be modernised and expanded to help it deal with the rising passenger and cargo flow, the company said.

The firm acquired by the holding company operates only the terminal, but not the airport as a whole, which remains in state hands.

Alfa Finance has extensive business interests in the mining, finance and media sectors. Its chairman and biggest shareholder Ivo Prokopiev is also chairman of the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria.
