Bulgarian PM Borissov Confers with South Korean President Moon

27.9.2019
September 27 (BTA special correspondent Antoan Nikolov) - President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea conferred with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, who is paying an official visit to the Asian country at the head of a government delegation between September 24 and 27. Moon offered Bulgaria closer cooperation in the IT sector and said that his country would like to use Bulgarian IT professionals who are highly valued there. The head of State would also like to see closer tourism cooperation with Bulgaria. He noted the steady increase in the number of Korean tourists visiting Bulgaria. The President said that, thanks to the efforts of its Government, Bulgaria is a leader in the Balkans and has achieved rapid economic growth. Besides this, in the first half of 2019 Bulgaria held the rotating Presidency of the EU Council and its fruitful coordination for effective work on migrant issues and Brexit was highly appreciated. Moon noted that two-way trade is growing and committed himself to promote Bulgaria. He said that Bulgaria attracts South Korean companies with its low taxes and good conditions for doing business. For their part, the companies are interested in investing in Bulgaria because this gives them easy access to the EU market. Borissov pointed out that Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea have fine cooperation in education and student exchange. He stressed the competitive advantages of the Bulgarian economy: a very good business climate, low taxation, skilled labour force, and access to the vast EU market. The President and the Prime Minister also discussed energy and the willingness of Korean interests to share in the Belene N-Plant construction project. Regarding the situation in the Korean Peninsula, Borissov said that Bulgaria consistently and categorically stands up for a peaceful settlement by diplomatic means. "Bulgaria praises the leading role of the Republic of Korea and your personal efforts, Mr President, for making progress in the inter-Korean dialogue and easing tensions in the Korean Peninsula," the guest added.
