Friends of the Earth Criticize BNP Paribas for Funding Construction of Bulgarian Power Plant
30.4.2008The banks are totally irresponsible and indifferent to society's big challenges and are led only by the principle of economic here and now, the French branch of the Friends of the Earth declares. BNP Paribas had neglected its promise to Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, and BeleNE (No to Belene) not to organize funding for the project.
Ecologists criticize the Belene project, because the nuclear power plant site is in a dangerous seismic zone and is built with dangerous Russian technology, that wouldn't have been allowed in France. Last week the Bulgarian press reported that the country's government had chosen BNP Paribas to play the role of adviser on financing the construction of the Belene nuclear power plant.
