Kuwaiti real estate market sees increasing activity

11.9.2009
The amount of activity in the Kuwaiti real estate sector increased for the second consecutive month in July 2009.

This is according to the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK), which revealed in its September report that there was a two per cent increase in transactions month-on-month.

A total of 415 transactions were recorded in July, which was an increase of 42 per cent compared to the start of the year.

NBK commented: "A combination of low interest rates, improving confidence levels and relatively stable employment prospects for Kuwaitis may be helping lift the sector off its lows."

It noted that a recent legal ruling allowing Islamic financial institutions to start trading in residential property also boosted confidence in the real estate sector.

However, sales were still only two-thirds of the number seen during the peak period before the crisis in the sector.

This comes after the Kuwait News Agency reported that Hesham Abdul-Wahab Al-Obaid, chairman of Abyaar Real Estate Development, said there are a number of possibilities for investment in Kuwait.
