PM Borissov Hails Agreement on Top EU Jobs

PM Borissov Hails Agreement on Top EU Jobs, Vows Support for PES' Stanishev If He Is Nominated for EP President Brussels, July 3 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov expressed satisfaction after the European Council picked its candidates for the top EU jobs on Tuesday - especially because his European People's Party preserves the European Commission Presidency. He also said the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) elected on the GERB ticket will support Party of European Socialists President Sergei Stanishev if he is nominated for President of the European Parliament. "To have a Bulgarian in such a high office is an honour, even if his fellow party Members dislike him," Borissov commented referring to the soured relations between Stanishev and Bulgarian Socialist leader Kornelia Ninova. Borissov said that Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel, who will likely be the next EU Council President, is "a very good friend of Bulgaria". He also said that he knows well the next EC President, Ursula von der Leyen - as he does the next European Central Bank President, Christine Legarde. He said of Legarde that he is sure having her on board will be important for Bulgaria on its road to the euro zone. LN/ Source: Brussels, http://www.bta.bg/en/c/DF/id/2038929
