PM Borissov: Construction of Hemus Motorway Will Increase GDP by 10-20%

Lovech, Northern Bulgaria, April 23 (BTA) - The construction ofthe Hemus motorway will increase Bulgaria's GDP by 10 to 20 per cent, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told journalists during the inspection of the construction of a 10-kilometer section of the motorway between Yablanitsa (near Lovech) and the Boaza road junction. The Prime Minister symbolically launched the step-by-step construction of a 134 km stretch between the Boaza road junction and Hemus's intersection with the Rousse-Veliko Turnovo road. The project is funded only by the State budget and will be implemented by the state-owned company Avtomagistrali. At the end of 2018, the Government provided 1.12 billion leva before VAT for this stretch. According to Borissov, by the end of 2022 there is a real possibility that the Hemus motorway will reach Pleven (Northern Bulgaria). He noted that engineering projects will also be drawn up for a connection between Targovishte and the Pleven road junction. In his words, the Finance Minister secured the payments, and the Regional Development and Public Works Minister is drawing up the engineering projects for the next lots. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Finance Minister Vladimir Goranov, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Petya Avramova, her deputy minister Nikolay Nankov, Road Infrastructure Agency Management Board Chair Georgi Terziyski, and municipal mayors.
