The Nationwide Tour player is no longer a Nationwide player, although he might stay on the Nationwide for another month or so. Huh? Sim won his third Nationwide event this year last weekend, which gives him an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour. The problem is he's only eligible to compete in one event in the next six weeks, so he said he might stay on the Nationwide Tour during that time to stay sharp.

Chipshot s Jesse Abshire, a 23-year-old pro from Susanville, placed third in the Tigers and Rabbits tournament, a professional event in the Bulgarian Golf Association, in Bansko, Bulgaria on Aug. 16. Since receiving a medical honorable discharge from the Army in 2006, Abshire has worked at golf at a number of courses in the West, including ArrowCreek. He is sponsored by Golf Tec, a teaching facility in Reno. "I went through a few instructors and ended up with Bill Presse who I am very happy with. And he got me back on track quite quickly," Abshire wrote in an e-mail. "I want (to thank) my sponsors for their awesome help and continued support. Plus my family and friends for all their inspiration." ... Safe Kids Washoe County will hold a miniature golf tournament to benefit local parent and children education safety programs. The tournament will be held at 10 a.m., Oct. 10 at Wild Island Mini-Golf. Entry fee is $15 per person, or a team of six for $60. Prizes and goodie bags will be provided.
