Skiers who book flights to Bulgaria will find more value for money than if they head to the French Alps.

29.10.2009
This is according to new research from InsureandGo, which revealed that skiers and snowboarders can save as much as 40 per cent if they travel to Bulgarian ski resorts such as Borovets, Pamporovo and Bansko.

During its appearance at the Metro Ski and Snowboard Show at London's Olympia last week, the insurance provider predicted a big increase in the number of skiers booking flights to eastern Europe this winter.

The company said that skiers would spend an average of £819 on the "major elements" of a ski holiday per week in a leading Bulgarian resort, which compares to £1,366 in a French equivalent, £1,162 in an Austrian resort or £1,045 in Italy.

"Despite being the most expensive destination to get to, the US works out slightly cheaper than France in total due to having by far the cheapest hotel accommodation of all the countries surveyed, and a more favourable exchange rate," an InsureandGo statement said.

"Countries in the eurozone have the most expensive hotel accommodation, though they are generally cheaper to fly to."
