Some 4% of Bulgarians in Temp Jobs in 2018 - Eurostat

28.5.2019
May 28 (BTA) - At 4 per cent, Bulgaria had the EU's fifth lowest share of temporary employment in 2018, Eurostat data show. The EU average for temporary employees aged 15-64 was 14.1 per cent of the total number of employees in this age group. The other EU Member States with less than 5 per cent of their employees in temporary jobs in 2018 were Romania (1.1 per cent), Lithuania (1.6 per cent), Latvia (2.7 per cent) and Estonia (3.5 per cent). Bulgaria had some 130,000 temporary employees out of an economically active population of 3.2 million in 2018. Some 100,000 of those employees were aged 25-55. In the EU as a whole, the proportion of employees in temporary employment was higher among younger employees. For those aged 15 to 24 the share was 43.3 per cent, compared with 12.1 per cent for those aged 25 to 54, and 6.6 per cent for those aged 55 to 64. Temporary jobs in Bulgaria were taken predominantly by people with primary or lower education (80,000 jobs), secondary education (40,000 jobs) and higher education (nearly 10,000 jobs). Seasonal employment as a form of temporary employment has been a major factor in Bulgaria's labour market in recent years, mostly in the hotel and restaurant business, agriculture, manufacturing and construction.
