Soul Singer Solomon Burke Dies at 70

American Grammy Award-winner soul singer Solomon Burke died Saturday night.

The 70-year-old singer has died at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. The news was confirmed by the airport police spokesman, Robern van Kapel, on Sunday, the New York Times has reported.

Burke had been due to perform at a popular club in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Despite Grammy Award-winner, he was also a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was most famous for his songs "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love," "Cry to Me" and "Don't Give Up on Me."

Burke was also well-known for his 250 kilograms and his 21 children (14 daughters and 7 sons). He had 90 grandchildren and 19-great-grandchildren.

With one of his daughters and granddaughters, he participated in the Bansko Jazz Festival on August 11, 2010.
