Transport Minister Calls for Revision of Overall Approach Underpinning Mobility Package 1

Transport Minister Calls for Revision of Overall Approach Underpinning Mobility Package 1

07.6.2019
Luxembourg, June 7 (BTA) - Bulgarian Transport Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov and his counterparts from Poland, Hungary, Lithuania and Latvia have discussed a joint strategy of like-minded EU member states concerning Mobility Package 1. The meeting took place in the framework of an EU Transport Council in Luxembourg on June 6, Zhelyazkov ministry reported. The Bulgarian Transport Minister called for a revision of the overall approach underpinning Mobility Package 1. He said: "We see a discrepancy between the measures envisaged in the legislative proposals and the long-term objectives which have been set in the field of transport. The provisions adopted by the European Parliament on first reading and those related to the common approach of the Council are a totally unacceptable foundation for future institutional negotiations. Our joint efforts should focus on achieving a balanced and sustainable legal framework for the European transport sector." According to Zhelyazkov, making a clear assessment of the likely impact of the legislative proposals is essential for the development of the single market and for providing better working conditions in the sector. The Minister plans to invite road hauliers and the newly elected Bulgarian Members of the European Parliament to a meeting next week to discuss joint steps on Mobility Package 1.
