UPDATED Bulgaria's First Floating Solar Power Plant Project Unveiled in Sofia

07.3.2023
SOFIA, 07.03.2023 08:31 | UPDATED 07.03.2023 11:32 (BTA) A major project for building Bulgaria’s first floating solar power plant was presented in Sofia on Tuesday. Construction of the plant in the water area of the Ogosta Dam (Northeastern Bulgaria) is expected to start in about two years’ time and to take between a year and a half and two years, which means that the facility will be commissioned within four years, Profine Energy Bulgaria Managing Director Krum Vasilev told BTA. In his words, the power capacity of the solar park was initially planned at 500 to 800 MW, and the approximate output at 1,350 MWh. The investment depends on the size of the park: it will be EUR 800 million for 800 MW and EUR 500 million for 500 MW (EUR 1 million per 1 MWh), the executive said. The facility can occupy some 850 ha of the 2,000 ha total surface of the reservoir. Vasilev is positive that fish in the dam will not be affected. He attributes the “brewing” protests against the project among the locals to the lack of information. "We want to talk to them and explain what we are planning," he said. The Profine Energy GmbH group, which is based in Waghausel, Germany, has built similar floating parks in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Spain, the CEO of the Bulgarian subsidiary commented. /LG/ LYUBOMIR GIGOV, The Ogosta Dam (BTA Photo), source: https://www.bta.bg/en/news/economy/419188-bulgaria-s-first-floating-solar-power-plant-project-unveiled-in-sofia
